No Place for Headscarves

Last Wednesday in Detroit (June 18th), during Barack Obama's Presidential Campaign, two Muslim women wearing traditional headscarves (commonly known as "hijaab") were refused to sit directly behind Obama's podium. A volunteer for the Obama Campaign explained to the Muslim women that because of the "political climate," it would not be "good" for Muslim women to appear on TV and associated with Obama.

Saudi Blogger Released From Jail

The Saudi regime today released the blogger who was detained by the authorities – no reason was given for his detention. The detention had led to an outcry, as many accused the regime of attempting to stifle freedom of expression. The blogger, Fouad al-Farhan, had used his blog to highlight the endemic corruption and torture of the Saudi regime.
